Le Chateau de Monfreville, Bed and Breakfast, Cottage rental and Camping near Bayeux, Normandy, France

On a gently sloping hill, overlooking the Cotin & Bessin National Park near to Bayeux in Normandy, is Le Chateau de Monfreville. A small chateau in the grounds of 20 acres with a whole load of history. A young family live here and have opted for the Good Life in France, growing their own vegetables, caring for a smallholding of ducks, chickens & sheep plus their pet Donkey, Bert, Bluebell & Mungo, their cats and a fancy pair of fantail doves.

Bed & Breakfast in the chateau with a fantastic breakfast served in the morning, complete with bacon, sausage, probably the best eggs ever! homebaked bread and fruit smoothie - perfect ingredients to start a day in Normandy. We will put the kettle on when you arrive and slice you a piece of cake!

We are happy to cook for you - just let us know what you would like. We can do snazzy dining or we can do family dining! Or if you prefer we can book you a table at one of the many restaurants in our local area.

The bedroom is a lovely low beamed room with stunning views across the national park - a lovely way to wake up. The tower of the chateau is located in the bedroom and has been converted into a wet room. Enjoy tea in bed in the morning - tea making is provided in the room before coming downstairs.

Pond Cottage

The cottage is semi-detached and have their own gardens and BBQ areas. Outdoor furniture and games are available . All linen and towels are supplied and guests will receive a welcome pack of local produce on arrival.

The cottage has four bedrooms, two with double beds and one en-suite shower. The are two twin rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. There s a lovely spacious bathroom with a bath & shower, loo and basin.  The sitting room is a fabulous beamed spacious room with comfortable sofas and chairs, a video, DVD, books and games. There is a wood-burning stove in this room. The dining room leads onto a covered terrace with outdoor furniture.  The kitchen is fully equipped with full size cooker, microwave oven and dishwasher. The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. The cottage is double glazed and has electric heating.

Camping

Chateau Monfreville also offers camping around its beautiful lake. Pitches & BBQ areas make this an ideal place to be at one with nature. Hot water showers and loos are within the chateau. We are not a commercial camp site and will never allow for over crowding- an escape from the rat race. We do not have the facility for caravans or campervans.

Activities

Children have the freedom to explore & become free range, help collect eggs from the chickens who also wander freely. The natural swimming pond nestles along side the east wall of the chateau where all sorts of water plants help maintain a happy equilibrium with nature. One can swim down the main channel, past frogs sitting on lilly pads if your lucky! A tantalising hottub is also available for the not so adventurous. Ping pong, croquet, boules, bikes and badminton are all to hand. Or just a good book & a bottle of wine to relax & unwind.
 

Location

For days out there are plenty of things to do, from the D Day Landing Beaches, War museums and memorials, Bayeux and its fantastic Tapestry. Horse riding at Trevieres, Golf at Omaha Beach, Land Yachting at Utah Beach, sailing at Grandcamp Maisey but to mention a few activites that can done.

Golf at Omaha Beach Golf Club - 36 holes
Omaha Beach Golf, already internationally known for its current technically challenging course, recently opened a second new one, “The Manor Course”, which promises to be sensational. This year you can now discover two 18 hole courses at Omaha Beach When designing the new Manor course, Yves Bureau wished to offer breathtaking views of the Bessin countryside. This course will delight even the most demanding golfers among you with its moved back tees, interesting angles and curves and especially challenging greens.

GOLF de CAEN 27 holes
Created in 1990, Caen Golf Course has 27 holes. The 18 hole "plain-valley" course with its 6155 metres is testing if you are open to the wind. The first two holes are tricky by being both narrow tree-lined water holes. You will pay heavily if you are too ambitious or off line. Several difficult Par four's follow of more than 400 metres.
